What is Therapy
Therapy, also known as psychotherapy or counseling, is a treatment, using evidence-based interventions, designed to help individuals address and manage mental health issues, emotional challenges, and personal difficulties. It involves working with a trained and licensed therapist in a confidential and supportive environment to explore thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. While each individual has their own personal goals tailored to them in therapy, the overall goal of therapy is to improve mental well-being, develop coping strategies, and foster personal growth.

A message from Cindy
Our sessions begin with a "check-in," where we discuss any homework, changes—big or small—and experiences you've had inbetween sessions. This time is designed to strengthen our therapeutic relationship and reinforce or expand the skills we're focusing on. It also gives you the chance to steer the session toward what's most important to you.
If it ever feels like the "check-in" is taking over, know that it's part of my role to guide the conversation back to our clinical goals or integrate your updates into our therapeutic work.
Following the "check-in," we move into the "core" of the session. This is where we concentrate on your reasons for seeking therapy and work together on your goals. This might involve practicing a new skill, gaining insights, or exploring different aspects of your life.
We wrap up the session with a "recap," where I'll review what we covered, remind you of any tasks or skills to focus on, and, of course, emphasize the importance of self-care, which I consider essential. These sessions are structured to help you stay aligned with your therapy goals while also allowing for the flexibility needed to address life's unexpected moments. If you feel this approach might not be the best fit for you, please don't hesitate to discuss it with your therapist during the consultation. Together, we can explore how to best support you on your therapy journey.

The role of your therapist
Your therapist is here to guide, empower, and support your exploration and learning process. It’s important to know that your therapist will not give you advice or tell you what to do. If you ever feel that something your therapist has said or done is offensive, we encourage you to bring it to their attention so it can be addressed appropriately.
